In the university of Bologna, Italy, they had a group of runners run until they got completely exhausted on a treadmill. Following that they gave each runner a 100mg of Coenzyme Q10 daily while the control group received a placebo. In the repetition of the run, the group that took CoQ10 managed to run 12% longer and 8% farther per average compared to the control group.
The addition of Coenzyme Q10 to the diet enhances the organism’s endurance regardless of physical exercise. A group of healthy college students each received 60mg of CoQ10 daily for 8 weeks without changing their current lifestyle with minimal physical activity. As a result, their average physical endurance increased by 28%.
High achieving athletes use from 12 to 20 times more oxygen than people leading a sedentary life. During intense physical activity the amount of free radicals increases manifold. This is yet another reason for active sportsmen to take Coenzyme Q10 – besides helping the recuperation of the cells’ energy storage it is also a powerful antioxidant.
Since with age the quantity of CoQ10 quickly decreases the Colgan Institute for Health and Performance advises the diet of all sportsmen to contain 30-60mg of CoQ10 daily.
